GVS is proud to announce its participation in the GREENFLOW project, funded under the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) through the “Accordi di innovazione” program promoted by the Ministry of Economic Development.
The project (No. F/350179/00/X60 – CUP: B39J23002570005 – COR: 16181944), carried out between February 2022 and January 2026, is part of the strategic area of Advanced Materials and aims to develop innovative and sustainable technological solutions for the medical sector, in line with the ecological transition goals defined by the PNRR framework (M4C2 – 12.2bis).
At the heart of the GREENFLOW project is the development of a new iteration of one of its flagship products, the Speedflow® intravenous filter, designed to combine high performance with reduced environmental impact throughout its entire lifecycle.
Innovation driven by sustainable materials
The project focuses on a comprehensive rethinking of both materials and production processes, with particular attention to sustainability and regulatory performance requirements.
A key area of development concerns eco-sustainable microporous membranes, where GVS has explored alternative solutions to traditional materials. This includes the identification and characterization of environmentally friendly solvents capable of replacing more hazardous compounds, while maintaining high functional efficiency. In parallel, innovative surface treatments have been developed to ensure hydrophobic and oleophobic properties, traditionally achieved through less sustainable chemical approaches.
Another important focus is the innovation of materials used for medical device housing. The project has investigated the replacement of conventional plastics with environmentally friendly polymers, capable of guaranteeing the same technical and safety performance required by industry standards. These advancements contribute to a significant reduction of the product’s carbon footprint and support the transition toward a more sustainable supply chain.
From research to proof of concept
Through the GREENFLOW initiative, GVS has successfully achieved a proof of concept, demonstrating the feasibility of integrating eco-sustainable materials and processes into intravenous filtration technologies.
This milestone represents a crucial step toward the future industrialization of a new generation of medical devices, combining high performance, safety, and environmental responsibility.
A step forward toward sustainable healthcare
The GREENFLOW project marks an important advancement in GVS’s journey toward a more sustainable industrial model, inspired by the principles of green chemistry, circular economy, and responsible innovation.
By investing in research and development within the framework of the PNRR, GVS reinforces its commitment to combining technological excellence with environmental sustainability, actively contributing to the evolution of the medical device sector.
